Can't beat the sound on the Court Reporter 5000 Digital back up recorder, 8/22/2012
Reviewer: Evelyn Orosz (Wayne, WV)
As a new reporter starting out, I was using a backup recorder and the sound was just not that good. I decided to splurge on this recorder and it has been a lifesaver. The sound quality is exceptional. I have been extremely satisfied and so glad I decided to make this purchase. I know that I have the best audio available for anything I may miss or transcribe inaccurately. I would give it 10 stars if that was an option.
Greatest invention ever. I am a happy customer!! Thanks Martel., 2/8/2012

I have used a small sony tape recorder in the past. I was
afraid to try a digital recorder until I found this Court Reporter 5000. When I learned it recorded just like a tape recorder I was shocked. The sound quality is just impeccable. Greatest invention ever. I am a happy customer!! Thanks Martel.
I have been a court reporter in the Los Angeles area for about 16 years. I have used in the past for many years my internal mic within my computer(s), they are okay, but don't pick up from afar. They just recently my mic jack went out and my computer guy told me to buy an external mic, which was a joke!!!! I had to re-set it about four times to get it to work. So now "I'm movin' on up to the top" and buying the best. My girlfriend, colleague has the same digital recorder with the foot pedal and other things that come with it and just LOVES it. She says that she has to even turn the volume down when she listens to it to use it for transcribing. That's what I want!!!!!!! I've ordered from you guys years ago and, I think it was a desk top cassette recorder and the regular record that played the 120 minutes tapes, but I'm way over that. I don't want to mess with the tapes nor the batteries. And you can only use the tapes about four times and then they stretch and sometimes snap!!! No good. But for the most part it worked fine for years. I'm going for less equipment and trying to streamline my equipment. I can't wait to get my new digital recorder and try it. Thanks so, so much! Lynn Marshall, CSR
I've been a court reporter for 38 years. Several years back I bought a Marantz cassette recorder from Martel. I plug in a headset to monitor the tape and also improve the hearing. since I'd had that for about 10 years, I looked into new technology, because cassettes are getting rare, and so are transcribers. So I bought this new digital recorder ... and it is blowing me away. the clarity of the sound is unbelievable, and the capacity of the flash memory frees you from worrying about having to watch for the end of the tape to turn it over. If you haven't upgraded in the last 5 years or so ... you really need to look into this recorder. You'll be amazed how it changes your reporting confidence. And it's so easy to use I sometimes wonder what I'm not doing that I should be.
Switching from a Sony Tape Recorder Tcm500dv to the Court Reporter 5000, 2/9/2011
Reviewer: Steve V. (El Paso, TX)
I finally made the jump to from the sony tcm500dv auto reverse tape recorder to the new digital Court Reporter 5000. Martel told me that this is the exact same thing as my old tape recorder but its digital. They were right!!!. The audio is 10X better than my old sony tape recorder and its just as easy. I can record 100 hours on the SD card, that 96 hours more than my old tape recorder. When I get home I just plug the foot pedal into the Court reporter 5000 and scope my work. EASY, NOT COMPLICATED and WORKS GREAT. I am telling everyone in my office to get this Court Reporter 5000.

I have used a small sony tape recorder and a sanyo transcriber for most of my career. I have been scared to try a digital recorder until I found this court reporter 5000. When I learned it recorded just like a tape recorder I was shocked. When I get home I just plug the foot pedal into the recorder and it becomes a digital transcriber just like my old tape unit. This is great. Thanks Martel.
What hand held digital recorder do court reporters recommend? This Digital Recorder of course, 12/1/2009
Reviewer: Meg B. (Washington DC, DC)
the best digital recorders for court reporters, The Sound quality is the best. The microphones on the top give me around 40 feet of pick up. The best feature is the pause button, I pause it around 5 times a day during breaks and side bars. On my last Olympus digital recorder I ended up with 5 files for one day, now I just have 1 file for the entire day with the court reporter 5000. I was so impressed I also bought the Elite Court reporters microphone. Both of them are terrific I would recommend it to every court reporter.
Court reporter back digital recorder with .wav, 11/7/2009
Reviewer: Pamela J. (Miami, FL)
I have tried the cheap hand held digital recorders before. I had to convert the files back to .wav to import them into the court reporter software. It was too difficult and time consuming. Then I got the court reporter 5000. It records in .wav normally and can record 100 of hours in .wav without turning off. Most the time I just use it has a digital transcriber by plugging the foot pedal into the side and scoping my work. I have to hand it to Martel, this is the perfect court reporter back digital recorder. Radio Frequency -RF- shielding from cell phone digital recorder.
The Court Reporter 5000's recordings are better than my Toshiba's!, 11/3/2009
Reviewer: Jan T. (San Jose, CA)
I have finally found a digital recorder that has 5 times the sound quality of my Toshiba's audio sync. I used to get buzzing in my audio sync recordings and had a hard time hearing testimony in depositions. I now realize it was cell phones causing that interference. I was so relieved find this court reporter digital recorder that cant be interfered with by cell phones. It's the perfect back up, and not only that is recordings are superb.
Court Reporter Digital Recorder with court reporter microphone, 8/7/2009
Reviewer: Samantha K. (Dallas, TX)
I bought the court reporter 5000 digital recorder for my agency. The sound is about 5 time clearer than my old auto reverse sony tape recorder. I should have switched to this a year ago when I was going though a tough case. When I get home I just plug the foot pedal into the side of the recorder and its a digital transcriber. Scoping goes my faster when I can hear every word. Yes it cant be interfered with by blackberry cell phones. I know because I have a blackberry. This is the best court reporter digital recorder.
I lost 2 important depo recordings on my laptop, then I got the court reporter 5000, 5/26/2009
Reviewer: Karla S. (St. Paul, MN)
If you are a court reporter you need to get a digital back up recording device. I lost 2
laptop recordings that were only partially done. If I would have had the court reporter 500 digital recorder I could have reproduced the depos. I wont make this mistake again. The audio files it makes can also be imported back into my court reporting software. I also bought the HGMUSB court reporter microphone. Both the court reporter microphone and the digital recorder are small for fitting into my purse. I love the sound quality and pick up range of both.
Transitioning from sony tape recorder to a digital recorder for court reporters., 5/19/2009
Reviewer: Sandra T. (Huntsville, AL)
Lately I have been losing audio sync recordings on my laptop. When I could get a recording a got allot of buzzing. I figured it out it was cell phones in my depositions. I learned that the only digital recorder that was cell phone free of interference was this recorder. The audio files can be imported back into my court reporting software which is a huge plus. The biggest surprise was the foot pedal that plugs into the side making it a convenient digital transcriber with out a computer. Well thought out in my opinion. Every court reporter should own one.
Loud Buzzing in my Audiosync program., 5/18/2009
Reviewer: Jennifer K. (San Jose, CA)
I was getting a radio station recorded onto my laptops audiosync recordings. I needed a back up so I bought the Digital Reporter 5000. Not only was it just like my tape recorder it worked like my transcriber only digital. I change memory cards during depos just like I use to change tapes. When I get home I just plug the foot pedal into the side and its the world's only digital transcriber without a computer. Martel sure makes the exact products us court reporters need.

The 2 microphones on the top can record perfect the entire deposition without an external microphone. I use the ac adaptor that came with the recorder. Very easy and Martel walked my through setup.

Audio sync program crashed during a depo, 4/6/2009
Reviewer: Amanda Y. (Gainesville, FL)
I was taking a realtime deposition for a doctor when 6 hours into it my computer crashed. I not only lost the record, I lost all my recordings for 2 months of work. I realized after, it was too late. I need a reliable digital recorder as a backup. I love the Court reporter 5000 because nothing can interfere with the recordings. The best feature is when I plug the foot pedal into the side of the recorder and it becomes a stand alone digital transcriber. NCRA members learn from my mistake of relying totally on my laptop.
