The cables allows you to extend the microphone away from all the Laptop noise, example, fan, processor, and typing noise . I have had this microphone for over a year now and love it. I was in court yesterday and dropped it in my glass of water. I let it dry for a day and plugged it in and it works. Wow, Martel wasn't kidding about made in the USA. Its rugged and the sound quality is superior to anything I have heard before in court reporter microphones. I would definitely buy another when I need it.

Best windows 7 court microphone for reporters. I love the sound quality. It makes my depo's pop. I can even distinguish between fast talkers. Special court reporter microphone. I have been a realtime court reporter for 15 years. I had just bought a Toshiba Laptop with Eclipse software. I tried 3 other so called court reporter microphones before I bought the Martel HGMUSB court reporter microphone. Believe me there is a huge difference with the Martel microphone. It also has a green light indicator showing you that it is working properly. I now can pick up voice up to 100 feet, tested. It has an hearing aid ic chip that filters out the back ground noise. Do not waste time or money buy this court reporter microphone, its worth every penny.

The ultimate court reporter microphone. I have tried every court reporter microphone in the past. One of fellow court reporters recommended the Martel HGMUSB court reporter microphone.
