On the side is a microphone that looks like a ball point pen, but in reality it's a microphone that is connected by a small wire in the case to the Sony court reporter recorder. There are a lot of court reporters who need a back up recorder but don't want to lay a voice recorder on the table. This is the solution. You can hit record before you enter the deposition and lay the attractive leather case down by your computer and all the voices will be picked up by the pen looking microphone. No one will be the wiser. The recorder has easy to use buttons.
Features for Court Reporters:
MP3 recording/playback: capture high quality crystal clear audio, and listen back through the 300 mW front speaker
Recording time: Built-in maximum recording time memory of 1073 hours in LP mode (MP3 8 kbps)
Scene: select/choose the type of recording you want to capture (music, meeting, interview, dictation) for optimized settings
Intelligent Noise: cut/enhances human speech for a much clearer audible range, and reduces distracting background noise
Track: mark/add multiple bookmarks to each recording, and jump to next/previous during playback
LCD display: easily manage your recordings with the Dot-Matrix LCD display
Advanced recording: voice operated with Hi/Lo mic sensitivity, and folders to store and organize recordings
Supplied accessories: USB cable, Sound Organizer, and 2 x Alkaline (AAA) batteries

I was really excited to see Martel had brought back the hidden court reporters recorder and microphone package. I use to use the tape recorder in this pouch. The sound is 20X better the tape recorder. Wow the sound is so clear. I was able to pick up voices in the depo that where 23 feet away. Way to go Martel, I am a customer for life.
